What can I do with a PhD?

Because the PhD is a research degree, the Doctor of Philosophy is the one to earn if God has called you to teach at the college, university, or seminary levels in a specific academic area of theological study. Scholars with PhD degrees “discover” new knowledge past the boundaries of what has been known before, or clarify confusion, or correct errors in thinking or approaches. The degree also enhances specific ministries, like the pastoral, counseling, and missiological tasks.

How long will earning the PhD take?

The Carroll PhD program has a seven-year limit, although most of our students graduate in about five years. The unknown factor is how long a student will need to complete his or her dissertation.

How much does a PhD degree cost?

Application Fee: $100 (non-refundable)
Matriculation: $2,000 per semester
Technology Fee: $150 per semester
Logos Fee: $200 (First semester only)
Language Competency Exam Fee: $150
Continuing Enrollment Fee: $1,000 per semester

Is any financial aid available for the PhD degree?

Carroll scholarships each student with a percentage of his or her tuition, the total cost of which is reflected in the fee structure of the program. Carroll seeks to make the learning experience affordable by keeping tuition costs low. At the present time, Federal Aid is currently unavailable for the Carroll PhD degree.

When should I apply?

Applicants may be admitted to the Ph.D. program at the beginning of either the January or the August semester of each year. For applicants with the research language or ancillary skills competencies already completed, and desiring consideration for admission for enrollment in the fall semester, the applicant’s completed application packet must be received by the Institute on or before April 1. For admission for enrollment in the spring semester, this deadline is September 1. For students not having research languages completed, the application packet may be compiled and submitted while the student is enrolled in language study.
